The inherited characteristics of idolatry is similar to that of Christians and how we take on characteristics of God and His son through the worship that we give Him. Still so very scary to realise that this is possible with lesser gods!! (Micah 4:5 is a good related verse)
EXACTLY. The book will discuss that in later chapters. When we as Christians are worshipping Christ properly we should totally take on his characteristics. I've found that part of that for me is becoming a little bit more Jewish and taking on a lot of the Jewish ideas about the Torah and the nature of God. I believe that is so important for us to do as Christians - read the New Testament through the lens of the Old rather than vice versa. And learn as much as we can from our Jewish sisters and brothers. They are truly a light unto the nations and throughout history too many Christians have failed to realize that, thinking themselves a replacement for God's covenant with the Jewish people, which in my view is still very much valid. Christ came to bring us Pagans into the covenant which God already had with the children of Israel.
I think the problem we believers run into is that we think we will always know the way God works. So I donβt blame that theologian who thought it was a mistake, his thought pattern towards God was just wrong. The truth is always surprising and often confusing. Thank you for this Dave ππΎ
You're welcome, Sarah! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I would encourage you to also try your hand at audio podcasts discussing Bible verses and religious themes. Mostly just what I do is read a bit of one of these books then talk extemporaneously about it. I usually don't know for sure what I'm going to say when recording these podcasts. I try to just let the spirit guide me.
