Hi to all of our God of the Desert listeners, readers, and writers! It’s long past time for an update from me on some temporary flux you’ll experience here at our Substack, due to the fact that David Swindle, our Fearless Leader, is currently hospitalized. He’s been receiving treatment over in Riverside, CA, a couple hours away from where we live, since Tuesday.
He’s going to be okay, and I’m hoping I’ll be able to bring him home in a few days. He’s not the happiest of campers at the moment, but he’s safe, and getting the treatment he needs. I’m very hopeful that setting this time aside exclusively for medical attention will set us up even more securely to continue furnishing our community with ever-improving, engaging content from our talented writers.
So I’ll be your DJ here at the GotD Substack for the next … little bit! As you can imagine, things are hectic when your partner is in the hospital, so it may be hit and miss - but I promise I’ll do my best! Call in with your requests - metaphorically, that is! Leave me a comment and let me know what kind of content you’d most like to see during this time, or send me that thing you’ve been noodling at and maybe we’ll run it!
You can also count on updates from me on how Dave is doing and when we can expect him back, podcasting away and subjecting me to the obscure art films of his adolescent years!
Thanks for your patience and understanding!
Be gentle with yourselves,

Since David is taking you through a workshop in film, I’d to see ideas for movies that others found to be therapeutic in a dark time? Funny movies, specifically. I’m not particularly sophisticated so my movie is Bridesmaids (2011) with the female cast from SNL.
I experienced some pretty grim postpartum with our fourth. I hadn’t felt myself in months. One afternoon while in bed, I turned on the tube and Bridesmaids was on HBO. I laughed for the first time in months. I will always be grateful for that gift. Laughter was healing. I’ve watched it since and don’t find it nearly as amusing but that afternoon in bed, it was exactly what I needed.
Thank you for the updates and God bless you and David as you navigate his illness.
I hope he's fe8elong better soon. I just had to stay in over night and it was awful! You can't help but hear noises they took my blood pressure and blood draw at 4:30!! I'll keep praying for you both ❤
