"The Whale" is a deeply moving film

It's worth heading to a theater to see.

Just a heads-up that any readers of this publication who are cinephiles should make it a point to check out Darren Aronofsky’s latest, “The Whale.” Films don’t usually make me emotional, but this one did. Its writer, Samuel D. Hunter, who adapted it from his play, also titled “The Whale,” did an interview with Vox’s Alissa Wilkinson, and it’s worth a read.

It would be unfair to describe the film as “Oscar bait,” because that would imply a certain cheapness. It’s not like those films. But regardless of that, my guess, and my hope, is that Brendan Fraser will win Best Actor.
