I was positively broiling
Underneath the desert sun
And taking just one step meant toiling
Desert life was just no fun!
The heat dome parked atop my state
Seemed to want to put down roots.
But something made it dissipate
And then, working in cahoots,
The air pressure and the winds
From Kay, the hurricane
Combine and slam the coastline
And inland, it drops some rain!
Now it's thirty degrees cooler
Than it was just last Tuesday,
But I must be a fool, or
I wouldn't count on it to stay.
The clouds soon part and I despair
The mercury hits ninety
Oh, this sucks; it isn't fair
Do I sound a little whiny?
I'm glad for slightly cooler skies
And I know that they’ll get better
But I still have stars in my eyes
Dreaming of my favorite sweater!
