Iran's Attempt to Murder Israelis Was a Massive Failure
Foreshadowing of what is likely to come if the Islamic regime continues its war to exterminate the Jewish people?
This is the 25th installment of the “Axis of Genocide” series at this Zionist Substack, the successor to the “Antisemitism and Culture” series which can be read in two 30-essay collections here and here.
This new series will document and analyze the antisemitic genocidal war waged against Israel by the Hamas terrorist group and its primary supporter, the Islamic regime in Iran. The accomplices in this attempt at a second Holocaust — Vladimir Putin’s criminal-gangster state in Russia and the authoritarian regime in China — will also come in for scrutiny and loud condemnation, as will the non-state actors supporting them, particularly the international Muslim Brotherhood propaganda network, and radical activists of both the far left and the far right. Other evil states and terrorist groups will also receive scrutiny. You can find a list of previous installments at the end of this post. Thank you for your support.
On Sunday morning, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Chief Spokesperson, said during an operational update, “Iran initiated an attack against Israel, launching over 300 threats of various types. The Iranian threat met the aerial and technological superiority of the IDF, along with a strong fighting coalition.”
Hagari said that “99% of the threats launched towards Israeli territory were intercepted – a very significant strategic achievement.” He said that of the approximately 170 UAVS and the 30 cruise missiles launched by Iran none entered Israel. Of the 120 ballistic missiles, “only a few crossed into Israeli territory, with the rest being intercepted,” he said.
However, it’s worth keeping in mind that 99% is not 100%. A 7-year-old Arab-Israeli girl from a Bedouin community was reportedly severely injured by shrapnel hitting her head and is now in a pediatric intensive care unit.
Military analyst Yaakov Lappin wrote that the 99% interception rate “means that a central pillar of Iranian force projection—its missile and UAV arsenals—has been proven to be no match for Israel’s Air Force, its multi-layered air defense system, or for regional cooperation with allies.”
The attack has taught Iran that “Israel’s multi-layered shield, fighter jets and partners can collectively neutralize its flagship conventional weapons program,” Lappin explains. “Israel is expecting its Iron Beam laser interception system, which can shoot down rockets, mortars and UAVs, to become operational soon, and is developing an interceptor (Sky Sonic) for Iran’s future hypersonic missile (Fattah), which is in development.”
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said at a Sunday morning meeting with other security officials that “overnight, the whole world saw the true face of Iran—a terrorist state that attacked the State of Israel from a distance of 1,500 kilometers [932 miles] and in doing so also attempted to employ all of its proxies.”
According to The New York Times, President Joe Biden called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and persuaded him not to respond with an immediate counter-strike, the limited damage caused in the attack also apparently a mitigating factor.
I wonder if perhaps a tactical consideration may have shaped Netanyahu’s decision too.
Is it not wiser to remain focused on defeating Hamas in Gaza and recovering as many hostages as possible?
Is it not a sign of strength for Israel to take the position that it will not allow Iran to escalate and expand the conflict? Israel should be in the driver’s seat about how this war proceeds - not Iran.
“In the next few hours, the decision will be made on where, when and how we respond,” Ambassador Danny Danon said.
The Israeli people are broadly united and determined like the world has not seen in decades, perhaps ever. A failed attack like what Iran mustered yesterday is unlikely to deter or distract the Jewish state from continuing the goal of total victory in the war that Iran and its terrorist proxy Hamas started on Oct. 7.
