My name is Kenny. I am a lifelong California resident living in different parts of northern CA my whole life.

I am a lifelong learner who is deeply intellectually curious and open minded. I am married with two children who are very far apart in age. My youngest child turns 1 this month.

My hobbies are very eclectic as I am a "jack of all trades master of none." type. I am really into retro video games, I make electronic music, and have even made very absurd video games myself. I love television, movies and music. I should read more, but I do read non-fiction books on occasion sometimes several books in a short time. I am really, really interested in History as a subject.

Thanks so much, Kenny! Really glad to have you as a reader and podcast listener! You've been so encouraging!

BTW, if you ever want to write anything about retro video games you're more than welcome. We could use more of that content here at GOTD.

I also like comic books and dogs I forgot to mention those two.

Writings on those subjects would be welcome also! We're going to have a fun comic book piece on Friday by our history book critic Daniel!

I could write something. You have no one writing about games. I am so niche on my interests and obviously being an involved father and being more than full-time employed I cannot keep up with modern games.

I don't know if I could contribute consistently but I would love to write something on gaming every now and then. Especially just appreciation for various games kind of in the same way your substack does music.

I really like the unpretentious attitude presented here on that topic.

Writing about the retro games would be even better than doing the modern stuff! 8-bit, 16-bit, 64-bit - those were the golden age for me. By the time the GameCube came around that was more my younger brother's than mine. I think we got a PS2 at one point mainly for Guitar Hero but the last computer game I bought was Vice City and the only game I've paid money for on the iPad is a rerelease of my beloved Heroes of Might and Magic III. So send me an email anytime if you'd like to do a post on games! Or I'll just go ahead and invite you as a contributor.

I will think of something to write about and write something. I have some time tonight.

Yeah. I do like some modern games, but all of them are "indie games" that share some design element of older games.

I think I have a very typical "Xennial" experience of what I find nostalgic. But since I am obsessive I have poured hours into researching every little detail about the NES and anything from the 8-16 bit era(which is also my favorite console era along with PC games from that era as well.)

The problem is that would need to think of something people would actually want to read even if they are not huge fans of 8/16 bit console games.

Don't worry about that potential problem. Just write what interests you and what you're passionate about and if it needs any work to broaden it or revise it then I'll give you some editorial feedback.

Hi Kenny! Just read your draft, and once you publish, I'll tell you about how old school gamer I am HAHAHA (Hint: It involves an Atari 2600)

BTW, my dad was named Ken :D

Where in NorCal? I was born and raised in Napa and Vallejo. My wife's from just outside Sacramento, a place called Georgetown.

I was born in Vallejo and lived in Crocket, then Fairfield(15 years there.) I have briefly lived in Sacramento and Redding. For the last 20 years I have lived in Chico, where I went to college.

Oh my goodness! I have an estranged uncle who I'm pretty sure still lives in Chico! I really need to look him up...

When I moved here it was really affordable for California. It was one of the rare places in CA that had a decent amount of entertainment and culture (due to the college) and was also affordable. Its unfortunately gotten more expensive in recent years due to a massive housing shortage spurred on by the devastating fires in the area that decimated the housing stock. Luckily, we got into the market before that happened, but the aftereffects of the fires and then to some degree the pandemic really changed the city.

My name is Sarah, I am from the UK and I enjoy reading, writing and baking. I am also a Christian, so seeing all of the Abrahamic religions (amongst other religions) highlighted and discussed here at GOTD Books is very interesting.

BTW, I am also curious which sort of Christian you identify as. Are there particular denominations or traditions that most inspire you? I was raised Methodist and still have some appreciation for that church. Though I've lately learned a lot from my Catholic friends and of course the Jewish influences I've taken in over the last decade have really shaped my perspective a TON too.

I also love love love music. But I'm 19 so my taste is probably a little iffy compared to everyone else's haha

You don't have to be worried about your taste in things. Sure it changes over time, but you will still remember the music you like now fondly years later, if only for nostalgia reasons.

You like what you like. That's okay. I remember being stuck up about music when I was a teenager, until I realized that the type of music someone likes has little to no bearing on their character.

Kenny's a real good guy, I've known him for years.

Kenny you should follow Sarah's Substack "Letters from the Train." She's just delightful and has so much potential as a writer.

We need more young people’s perspectives on music too! Who are your favorites we should check out?

I'm really into worship music at the moment; the OGs like Kirk Franklin, CeCe Winans, Marvin Sapp. The newer ones are also really great; Maverick City (even though they get a bad rep sometimes for no reason?), Lecrae and DOE.

Have you encountered yet my 3 favorites from my Evangelical Christian days? I still have much affection for them: Newsboys, DC Talk, and Jars of Clay?

Hi, my name is Mike, I live in Texas, and I suppose my hobby is cooking. Or blogging about music. I mean, I do art for a living, I write, I love to cook, I'm obsessive when it comes to music sometimes...

Between all that, the wife, the kid, the dog.... Yeah.
