Try this. Drop a piece into ChatGPT and ask it be rewritten in the style of Steinbeck. Then repeat it while asking it be rewritten in the style of Hemingway. The results are amazing.
I've given it a list of my favorite authors and told it to alternate between writing responses in various writing styles. And also to note when subjects I ask about to relate to those writers. It's especially cool to teach the AI more about what you want and what interests you.
I don't have a paid AI version but I also want to preserve my own authenticity and not have it replaced by the machine. I know all these are loaded terms but because I have no author whom I want to mimic, I do not want to "teach" AI to be me. May I say, I choose to be weirdly self? With a chance to be different today from tomorrow and day before today?
I am not telling you to write things for it. I am telling you it can help you brainstorm ideas for your writing and help your organize your thoughts and research more easily.
How am I not preserving my authenticity by using AI to help with my writing and image creation for this publishing company?
It's not about teaching AI to be you, it's about teaching AI how to HELP you. It is a tool. It is just a typewriter or a word processor but much more advanced. Don't be afraid of it.
I don’t have a publishing company and I don’t create images so maybe I am just missing the point? My point is that in my “playing “ with ChatGPT, it changed the intended meaning. Is it understanding subtleties and humor? So, my initial comment was that ChatGPT lacks nuance. My further comment was making sure that I sound as myself (authenticity) even if I sound imperfect or grammatically imprecise (though the latter fact is less acceptable). So, me, myself and I want to be me, myself, and I. Research wise, I welcome some ideas, writing wise, not so much.
It scares me. What about preserving my unique idiosyncrasy? Will ChatGPT do it as well effectively making me obsolete? So far, some of the suggestions I was offered were missing the point, but yes, it improved quite a bit since the time it was introduced. So, next step - perfection of AI and displacement of me/myself and I?
One of the things that I've found that makes it more effective is to train it a bit. Tell it more about yourself and what you're interested in and how it can help you best. You can also have it give responses in the style of a famous author or person. I often have mine provide answers in the style of Virginia Woolf or James Joyce.
And you can tell it to add in your eccentricities. It is just a more advanced computer program than what we're using now. That's all.
