The love affair between Odd Thomas and Stormy Llewelyn is one for the ages. It’s Romeo and Juliet, Tristan and Isolde, Lancelot and Guinevere, along with the Duke of Windsor who abdicated the throne for the love of his life, Wallis Simpson.
The Odd Thomas movie, based on Dean Koontz’s first novel of the series, flashes back to Odd and Stormy standing before a carnival attraction called the Gypsy Mummy. They drop in a quarter and receive a card that reads: “You Are Destined To Be Together Forever.” Throughout the eight books, Tolkien-inspired adventures run at full speed between now and forever. In the first book, Master storyteller Dean Koontz slams the reader with heartbreak and has Odd Thomas battling the evil that slithers out from under the bed.
Odd Thomas, the fry cook from Pico Mundo, can see dead people. The dead can’t talk, but they can annoy, terrifying, enlighten: a murdered young girl pointing to her killer, or Elvis hanging out with Odd. The great singer and entertainer has yet to move on from this life.
Stormy insists on celibacy until they’re married, and Odd painfully agrees, loving her all the more. Also, her cool, feminine intelligence has determined that this life is boot camp, the next, a life of service, and round three, the glory of eternity. Odd Thomas is startled by her insight, which only adds to his passion to protect Stormy and those friends and neighbors he loves dearly.
