I was a standard early Beatles Monkees fan at about ten years of age when my friend brought an album over and said "listen to this." https://youtu.be/npqfOk7XN_0

Yes--This is good. As you can see from my list, I remained quite shallow in my musical tastes. :-) My father had some jazz records, but is to this day a classical music aficionado. Some of it rubbed off on me.

Thanks, Mike! Many of them aren't even my favorites, but they got a vivid memory associated. Ah well, I can't explain our brains.... :-)

Is Magical Mystery Tour your favorite, Alec? I think we should perhaps start talking Beatles albums and songs and you might be the best to start the discussion...

Magical Mystery Tour, the song and the album both are definitely on my favorite list. I saw an article from Kyle Smith a few years ago arguing that it was better than Sgt. Peppers. I'm neutral on that and could argue either way, but I personally like MMT better. Let me think about what I might say in the Beatles--certainly for me I appreciate discovering them as a child after their time. This for me lent a certain distance to their work and how it was perceived politically and culturally at the time. I was able to judge all that independently.

Reminds me of the theory of scent, and how it's associated deeply with memory.

I remember hearing specific music at specific times in my life. This is actually worth another blog entry in and of itself.
